for Missouri high school juniors

The St. Louis branch of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF)  seeks essays by Missouri high school juniors, 3 to 5 pages in length, discussing how  conflicts can be peacefully resolved.

WILPF is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working to end racism,  militarism, poverty, and environmental degradation.

WILPF believes that youth can contribute useful ideas to these objectives. The St. Louis  branch of WILPF therefore invites Missouri high school juniors to contribute their ideas  onhow peaceful resolution of conflicts ‘in our back yards’ can be applied to national and  international conflicts.

Your essay may tell about an experience of conflict you have witnessed, or experienced  in your local community, school, or family, which was respectfully worked out. Apply  this to a national or international conflict and imagine how best to work things out. Peacemaking is essential to human life, and we invite your contributions and ideas on  this important topic.

A prize of $100 will be given for the winning essay along with two honorable mention awards. Essays should be submitted by mail to WILPF 438 N. Skinker Blvd. St.Louis, MO 63130 or via email to wilpfstlouis@gmail.com on or before March 8, 2021
